Vice President of Development
Katya Hristova joined Wheat Capital Management in 2016 as Vice President of Development and leads all new development and redevelopment activities for the firm. A seasoned veteran in development and construction, Ms. Hristova has over ten years of industry experience working with most major asset types including retail, office and medical office, multifamily, residential and self-storage.
Previously, Ms. Hristova was Vice President of Development with Simply Self Storage, where she was responsible for all new development initiatives and value-add expansion of top performing existing assets for the firm, including entitlement, construction management and design, project return analysis, market research, as well as management and coordination of the acquisition and development pipeline.
Ms. Hristova began her career as an architect, specializing in the design and project management of healthcare and life-science facilities. She holds a “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design” accreditation and is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and Urban Land Institute, where she recently joined the Women in Leadership Initiative Committee. She has participated in the prestigious M.I.T. A.A.C.R.E. competition, and was also awarded first place in the international residential competition “What if New York” organized by the Rockefeller Foundation. Ms. Hristova earned a Master’s Degree in Real Estate Development from Auburn University, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Illinois Institute of Technology.
